The River Landscape: Experiencing It in order to Understand and Protect It

Rivers are environmental and social macro-systems that interest the populations living near them, having always shaped these populations’ natural perception of the environment surrounding them. The river in fact was the source of water and the “road” along which cities and towns were founded throughout the centuries. Along their banks, civilizations were born and cultures flourished, thus contributing to the “picture” of the river landscape, integrating themselves with the natural elements. We have possibly now forgotten this, and our commitment to safeguarding their purity and the life they contain must be our way of respecting them. To achieve this, it is fundamental to work on educating and training the new generations, so that they can develop the awareness that human life is inseparably tied to the quality of water and the protection of the landscape.
